Dentures vs. Implants: Which Option is Right for You?
When it comes to restoring your smile, dentures and dental implants are two popular solutions that cater to different needs. Choosing between them depends on your oral health, lifestyle, and budget. At Gold Star Dental, we’re here to guide you through the decision-making process with expert advice tailored to your unique situation. Let’s break down the key aspects of each option to help you make an informed choice.

What Are Dentures?
Dentures are removable appliances that replace missing teeth and surrounding tissues. They come in two types:
Full Dentures: Replace all teeth in the upper or lower jaw.
Partial Dentures: Replace some missing teeth while preserving your remaining natural teeth.
Benefits of Dentures:
Affordable and accessible solution for tooth loss.
Non-invasive with no need for surgery.
Customizable for a natural appearance.
A good choice for patients with significant bone loss or oral health issues.
What Are Dental Implants?
Dental implants are titanium posts surgically placed into the jawbone, serving as anchors for crowns, bridges, or dentures. They mimic the function and appearance of natural teeth.
Benefits of Dental Implants:
Long Term solution with proper care.
Prevent bone loss and maintain facial structure.
Provide superior stability for eating and speaking.
Feel and look like natural teeth.
Combination Solutions: Implant-Supported Dentures
If you’re torn between the two, consider implant-supported dentures. This hybrid solution offers the stability of implants and the affordability of dentures. With fewer implants needed to secure the denture, it’s a great middle ground for many patients.
Mini Implants Overdenture
Ideal for patients with medical, anatomical or financial limitations. Mini Implant Overdentures offer patients improved stability and function. They allow patients who have narrow ridges or aren’t able to undergo bone grafting procedures to experience the benefits of implant treatment through a minimally invasive surgical protocol.
For ideal results, our denture is delivered in conjunction with Inclusive® Mini Implants, which are self-tapping, threaded titanium implants available in 2.2 mm, 2.5 mm and 3.0 mm diameters.
Locator® Implants Overdenture
Locator Implant overdentures are recommended for patients who desire a more stable removable prosthesis that improves retention, function and speech. For patients who desire a palateless maxillary denture (upper arch), implant overdentures can be fabricated in the shape of a horseshoe, addressing patient issues with comfort, speech and taste.
Locator Overdentures are delivered over at least two implants, are most common in the mandible, are supported by the soft tissue and can be removed by the patient for cleaning.
This removable implant solution is recommended when the patient doesn’t have enough bone volume to support the number of implants in the correct positions needed to provide adequate anterior-posterior (Front-Back) spread for a fixed restoration.
Locator® Implants Fixed Prosthesis
The Locator® Fixed Prosthesis offers a simple, efficient means of providing fully edentulous patients with a fixed implant restoration. Using the same Locator abutment and attachment technology, the Locator Fixed Prosthesis allows you to restore your patients' dental function, confidence and smile with ease.
Unlike the Locator Implant Overdenture, the Locator Fixed Prosthesis is designed to stay in position using Locator technology and cannot be removed by the patient. Supported by at least four implants, the Locator Fixed Prosthesis gives patients the confidence to smile and ability to chew food and speak with ease.
How to Choose ?
Here are some factors to consider when deciding between dentures and implants:
Bone Health:
Implants require sufficient jawbone to anchor the post securely. If you have significant bone loss, bone grafting might be necessary.
Dentures don’t rely on jawbone structure, making them a better option for patients with advanced bone loss.
Maintenance and Longevity:
Dentures need daily cleaning and occasional adjustments.
Implants require regular brushing, flossing, and dental checkups, but they are a long-term solution with proper care.
Cost:
Dentures are typically more budget-friendly upfront.
While implants have a higher initial cost, they can save money over time due to their durability and low maintenance.
Lifestyle Considerations:
Implants provide a natural feel and better functionality, making them ideal for those who want a permanent solution.
Dentures are less invasive initially, making them suitable for patients who prefer a simpler process.
